Lula, a moral dwarf

Dwarfism, in the medical sense of the word, is a genetic disorder characterized by abnormally low body growth in relation to the population average. There is, however, a symbolic dimension to the figure of the dwarf. “The Dwarf”, a novel by the Swedish writer Pär Lagerkvist, awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1951, portrays the court of Prince Lorenzo de' Medici, during the Renaissance, from the point of view of Picolino, a court dwarf who possesses a powerful intelligence and a great power of observation regarding the intrigues, betrayals and crimes of his time. In the story of Snow White, popularized by the Brothers Grimm in the early 19th century, the seven dwarfs can be seen as symbolic representations of both the seven Christian virtues (humility, generosity, chastity, patience, temperance, charity, diligence) and the seven sins. capitals (pride, avarice, lust, wrath, gluttony, envy and laziness). The dwarves' short stature means that the dwarves' sins and vices did not grow in their souls; the good they do means that their virtues have been expanded through the communion of purposes. That's why all children love the seven dwarfs.

But there are cases in which the figure of the dwarf has an unequivocal meaning associated with evil. In 2014, exactly ten years ago, the Dilma government criticized Israel's reaction to Hamas' acts of terrorism. To top it off, the PT president recalled the Brazilian ambassador in Tel Aviv to Brazil, in a clear gesture of hostility towards the Israeli nation. At the time, the spokesperson for the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Yigal Palmor, reacted vigorously: “The Brazilian government's decision does not reflect the level of relations between the countries and ignores Israel's right to defend itself. It is a regrettable demonstration of how Brazil, an economic and cultural giant, continues to be a diplomatic dwarf.”

Since that episode, the expression diplomatic dwarf began to be used to define the foreign policy of the PT and the Brazilian left as a whole. Time passed, but the left did not forget that harsh international humiliation. As I always say: communists never forgive. Now, a decade later, Lula has decided to return to his old role as friend of dictators and justifier of terrorists. But, after all, it increased the depth and severity of the offense by relating Israel's reactions to Hitler's extermination of the Jews.

With his spiteful but very clear speech, Lula once again proved that he was much more than a diplomatic dwarf. The occupant of the Presidency of the Republic is a moral dwarf with a gigantism complex. Only a small soul would be able to offend the memory of 6 million Jews exterminated by Hitler by comparing the Holocaust to a legitimate reaction against the greatest slaughter of Jews... since the Holocaust. Only a minimal moral conscience can omit that Hamas uses the civilian population of Gaza as a human shield in hospitals, schools and residential areas. Only the possessor of a nanocharacter could expose the entire population of his country to shame and international ridicule. Only a moral microbe can transform a diplomatic service with a tradition of neutrality and dialogue into a kind of of Chinese and Russian thugs.

Lula's dwarfism is a moral disorder, a disease of the spirit and intelligence whose main symptom is the inversion of reality. Persona non grata for millions of Brazilians, brought to power through a revolutionary coup, the moral dwarf must be prevented, by legitimate and peaceful means, from continuing his gigantic stupidity.
